Happy birthday to me

Feeling ready for summer

I have so much on my mind at the moment that it's difficult to find time for it all. I have 2 papers that unfortunately don't write themselves, two oral exams to prepare for, birthday parties to plan (One for monsieur boyfriend, one for me and one for both of us. Status: 2 down, 1 to go) and a lot of things in between. All this stress makes me think of summer, where a loooong summer-break awaits me, and all I've planed is to live in the present without a care in the world, but with beautiful sandals on my feet.

Sandals from Zara
And a little dress for the tanned arms and legs.

Birthday wishes

In 10 days, it's my birthday (yeah for the celebration, buh for the getting older), and I have started to prepare my wishlist! Yes, I know it's something you did when your were 10, but I'm turning 26, and have a memory as a 96 year old with Alzheimers, which is why it has taken me a year to get it done. Everytime I found something to wish for for Christmas or my birthday I have written it down, so I wouldn't forget. I mostly forgot to do it, so I don't have a lot of wishes on the list at the moment, but here is what I've got:
The two amazing bracelets are from Oxideret, and on sale. The ring is from Carré
I looove jewelry like every other girl on the planet, but these three pieces are really high on my list. The simplicity and roughness of the two bracelts, which are made in steel (How cool is that!), would just make my everyday-outfit, consisting of jeans and a T-shirt, a lot cooler.
Pictures from french Vogue
After living in Paris for 6 months, I have developed a fantastic relationship with french Vogue. I just feel so silly paying more than double for the magazines here in Denmark. So if I get a subscription for my birthday, I wouldn't feel like I'm being robbed blind by the evil magazine-people (They ARE out there!).

Pictures from Google, YouHeShe and Nordhjem.

If you haven't seen Breakfast at Tiffany's yet, do so as quickly as possible. It's not for nothing that it is a classic! Perfect for a sunday in bed in a cosy T-shirt, as the one from Acne and a great cup of tea.

If my family win the lottery before the 30th:-) Pictures from Net-a-Porter
Please et me know if you can think of something I've forgotten...

Call of the search

I have found the perfect jeans! I've heard of 5 Units from different places in the Blog-world, but I'm always very skeptical about jeans as they always look fantastic on everybody else but me - I'm suffering of the anti-jeans syndrome apparently. However, I saw some styles were on sale on the danish website Oxideret, and I took the chance and ordered a pair last friday.

I accidentially went shopping the next day, and found that one of the big department stores in Copenhagen housed the brand, and thought it couldn't hurt to try on a pair, just to see if I ordered the right size (Question: Why can't all denim-brands use the same size-scale when making jeans? They make my life hell, and should be terribly punished along with bra companies!). It turned out that not only were they the perfect fit, but also my soulmate when it comes to making my ass look gorgeous, my legs look skinny and my banker look happy. What more can you really ask for? I took them home on the spot, and am now the proud owner of the urban fashion myth - the perfect pair of jeans! The end.

In a cupcake state of mind

Do you know these days, where you could absolutely eat everything with a bit of sugar in it? I'm having one of those days, so I am dreaming me away to the best cupcakes Paris has to offer, Berkos! Hmm, maybe I should try to make some myself, á la Copenhague bien sûr:-)
Just so you know - They taste as good as they look!

What the hell happened?

I woke up this morning well-rested and full of energy. The sun was shining, and you could actually feel its warmth when it hit your face. I was dressed for success with my new T-shirt from Monki, which I bought this weekend on sale (Gotta love sales!) and boots from Paris, and on top of that - For once I had a great hair-day (Doesn't happen often when you have curls). I'm writing a pre-project for my master thesis at a lab at "Statens Serum Institut" the moment, so I'm having "fun" with my MacBook Air most days, and today was no exception. As the computer is so petite, I need an internet adapter, as the lab don't have WIFI. The adapter however didn't want to come to work with me this morning (I blame the adapter, and not my poor memory in the morning. I feel it's more constructive), so I suddenly found out how addicted I am to the damn internet. I had to hit the big books (1700+ pages) all day, which made the product of a days work one poorly written page. This is when I would usually treat my self with a little something sweet, but I have gone into sugar rehab, so no treat for me:-( That's why I let my self go home early to enjoy the weather - It has now started raining, thank you! The only thing that keeps me from going to bed early is that I got a new follower of my blog yesterday (welcome), and a record number of hits, yeah:-) One thing that can improve my mood is the hope of more of you will join my club, sugarless sugar and the simplicity of Adele. Hope your day was better than mine.

Fight for the women

Today the calendar shows the 8th of March, and maybe it's an ordinary day for most people, but for me it's special! Today is the International Women's Day, and in my opinion ought to be celebrated on the same level as Easter or another weird holiday (It started with God, Jesus and a cross, but is now chocolate eggs, chickens and yellow stuff, hmm). It's a day where we should think back and appreciate how far women have come socially, economically and politically. Remember, once we (I think most of my readers are women, if not I'm sorry for the assumption) were not allowed to work, wear pants and vote which might seem absurd, but that's the fact! I don't think it's too much to ask to take a little time to remember what women all over the world have fought for, but also how far we still have to go. Even though these rights seem universal to all of us in the developed countries, it is still just a dream for a lot of women out there. Let's use this day as a reminder of how much still has to be done and together work towards equality between men and women. Or better yet - Women as the superior race:-) Here are some of the women I would like to thank.
Jeanne d'Arc, Oprah Winfrey, Rosa Parks, Anne Frank and Mother Teresa.

Update: Are we equals?

Confessions of a lip-balmaholic

I hate dry lips! On myself,  on monsieur boyfriend in particular and on everybody else in general! That's why I always have at least one lip balm on me at all times, and more often forget my keys that my lip balm. I even rate different beauty labels on their ability to make good lip balm, and use that as a standard to pick and choose between the labels. Totally weird I know, but there are just so many different labels out there, and it's impossible to try them all. The great thing about lip balm is that they are not expensive and they all have the same purpose: Moisture lips! Even though the agenda is simple, there is a big gap between the good and the bad, because there are some really bad ones out there! Why make a balm that makes your lips drier, tastes like cheap candy and leaves a greasy membrane? It has taken me a couple of years to come up with my favorites, but here you see some of them.
Eight Hour Creme from Elisabeth Arden, the classic. Here you see three of them - One for the bag, the bathroom and the bedroom
Homéoplasmine from Boison, my french friend, and only available on french pharmacies:-(
Lip Balm #1 from Kiehl's, perfect for the clutch.
Glossy Shine from Biotherm for an evening out - gives a little color.
Shea Lip Butter from The Body Shop, which smells delicious.

As I said, this is only a small selection of the best. Do you have any to add to the list?

3 tips for gorgeous lips, and one for the road:
- Exfoliate once a week with a baby toothbrush
- But on lip balm before going to sleep, and wake up with soft lips
- Use a lip balm specific for each seasons. In the winter you need extra care!
- Some lip balms can also be used as highlighters and eye-and nail treatment.

Just danse

Pictures from My Little Paris

Come on Spring!

I thought, I would share my newest edition to my closet, and at the same time a bit of advice. First things first, I found this spring jacket in Zara the other day.

Picture from Zara.com. Wouldn't mind the boots either;-)
It was available in a caramel color and beige also, but I chose it in military green, as I don't have anything in that color. Even though it came with a leather belt, I will wear it without for a more casual look, but it's nice with a bit of variability. And now for the good advice. You know, when you buy something new, you want to wear it right away? Well, I felt the same way about this jacket, so I wore it to the cinema the other day. Big mistake! Because it was a spring jacket, I thought that I would just wear a couple of knit sweaters, 3(!!!) pairs of leggings under my jeans and big furry winter boots, so I could keep warm in the cold weather. And I did, but what I didn't think about was how warm I would get when siting still for 2+ hours in a crowded cinema. I was sweating like a million pigs, and the fact that the film (True Grit. Amazing film. Go see it before your neighbor) was really good and dramatic didn't help at all. Even though I love my new jacket, I think I will keep it in the closet until the weather improves.

100 things I want to do before I die... #98

Fashion year

It's no secret that I love traveling, but I unfortunately don't get to do it as often as I would like to. It particularly don't improve my situation that monsieur boyfriend hates flying, and doesn't care for traveling outside Europe. However, I have four dream destinations:
1: Ireland, because the irish speak with a superb accent. Love it!
2: Hawaii, which is dream destination no. 1. and will be explained in another post...
3: Dubai, my love.
4: Fashion-cruise - London, Paris, Milan and New York within a year.

Vivienne Westwood, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs. Pictures from Style.com

This year though has been an "almost" in regards to point no. 4. For my 25th birthday I got a trip to London, yeah! The weather could have been better, but hey! It's not London without a cloud of stylish umbrellas. In August, I moved to Paris, and got to spot fashionistas during the couture week in January. In October, I had to attend a seminar in Italy, which brought me to Milan for the first time. The hotel was horrible and the company even worse, but the city was without a doubt spectacular, and I will most definitely go back at another time. However, New York was a bit out of my reach this time around, so I can't check point four of my list yet. But don't worry: "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere", it's up to me New York, New York!
